Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) was presented an award for the New Airport Development of the Year for 2008 by Peter Harbison, executive chairman of the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) on October 29.
This was the first time that an airport in China had received an international prize.
BCIA, with three terminals, three runways and two control towers in full operation, ranks No. 1 in Asia, explained Dong Zhiyi, general manager of Beijing International Airport Co., Ltd.
Dong added that during the Beijing Olympics, in close cooperation with the airlines, BCIA successfully provided support for large scale, long term and complicated air transportation, making its contribution to improving the development of the Asia Pacific aviation industry.
Moreover, Peter Harbison, executive chairman of CAPA, noted that the award was to commend the outstanding contribution an airport has made to Asia Pacific aviation over the past year. This was also the first time an airport in China had won the CAPA award.
CAPA is the authoritative research institution in the Asia Pacific aviation industry.
