A large matchmaking event for young men and women will be held on December 20 by Guangdong tourism organizations.
Hosted by the Guangdong Tourism Association, the Department of Civil Affairs of Guangdong province and China Mobile's Guangdong branch, the so-called "official" matching festival will be held at the city's Tianhe Park.
Both residents of Guangzhou and those living outside the city can register at www.111party.com. Only people who have registered information are allowed to participate in the event.
"We call this a Guangdong romantic tour," said Jiang Jiandong, an organizer of the event.
"Since Guangdong held its first romantic tour in 2002, we have already held more than 130 such matching activities," he said.
About 50 percent of the participants attending the previous events aged between 28 and 35 found mates and were married within one or two years with the help of organizers.
Even though the official event lasts only a short time, the happiness will long last, Jiang said.
Requirements for participants include registration with real names, ages and occupations.
Jiang said matchmaking for the elderly and wedding anniversaries for the aged are also planned.
"Such activities are very helpful for the development of a harmonious society and to boost economic development in tough economic times," Jiang said.
It is expected that more than 10,000 people will participate in the event on December 20.
As a co-organizer, China Mobile's Guangdong branch plans to distribute questionnaires during the event about how to build a harmonious family.
Organizers said they will also plan honeymoon tours for newly married couples.
