JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Transportation Minister Jusman Syafei Djamal said he estimated that up to 26 million people in the country would be traveling for the Idul Fitrpost fasting period that would fall on the first of October.
"The number of travelers using public transportation means or private cars are predicted to increase this year," the national Antara news agency on Monday quoted Indonesian Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Jamal as saying.
The majority of the Indonesian people are Muslims. They have a tradition of visiting relatives and friends on the post-fasting holidays.
The minister said the number of people who would travel by public transport was estimated to reach 15.8 million, a rise of 0.86 percent compared to last year, while the number of people who would travel by motorbikes or private cars would reach 10 to 11 million.
"The number of people who would travel by land is predicted to reach 9 million while millions of others would travel by sea or air," he said during his tour of inspection at the railway station.
