
It is located in the southeast of Yinxian County, 14km from
Ningbo. The Dongqian Lake, also known as the Wanjin Lake, is the largest lake in Zhejiang Province covering an area of nearly 20km2, four times of that of
Hangzhou West Lake. It is surrounded with so many mountains in all directions that the mountains and the lake crisscross in turn forming a copy of beautiful mountain and water Chinese drawing. Being a provincial scenic spot as well as a comprehensive tourist resort for travel, entertainment and vacation, the Dongqian Lake Scenic Site consists of three lakes, namely, the Grain Lake, South Lake and North Lake. Around the lake lies ten famous views including: Taogong Angling Rock, Graceful Hill and Lake under the Setting Sun, Rosy Clouds and Mist around the Island, Wild Geese Inhabiting in the Reed, Fishingboat Light at the Yinwan Bay, Heavenly Chessboard on the White Rock, Double Rainbows, Dawn Bell of Shanglin, Book Tower of Yuxiang and Jade-green Scenery, and other historical relics such as: the Butuo Dongtian Grotto, Yuan Pagoda, Erling Pagoda, Wang Anshi Temple, Yue E King Temple, Sha Menghai Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Zhou Yao Insects Museum and Butterfly Arts Museum, etc. there are also large amounts of inscribed stones for the tombs built in the Southern Song Dynasty around the lake. The finely carved stone and the gracefully designed pattern on the stone fill in the gaps of both the sculpture and the art of the Southern Song Dynasty in Chinese history of sculpture and arts.
