Liaohe Source Scenic Spot in Pingquan County is sixty kilometers in the northwest of Pingquan county covering a total are a of 230 square kilometers. Because of too many mountain springs here and it is the source of West Liaohe River, thus comes the name of "Liaohe Yuan" (Liaohe Source). Liaohe Source Scenic Spot has lush forest and various animals and plants. Its forest area is 0.218 million hectares in which there are primitive secondary forest 0.116 million hectares. There are over 1700 kinds of plants and about one hundred kinds of animals. In July 1993, the scenic spot was approved as the provincial forest park.
Liaohe Source Scenic Spot is combined with mountain, forest, grassland, clear spring, strange stone together. It is the nature that creates such a wonder. Different kinds of stones are showing the splendor of the nature. "Jiulongpan Poplar" (Nine-dragon-surrounded Poplar) is a huge tree whose crown covers an area of about 750 square meters, which is called by the experts "Miracle Tree in the World".
The main peak is Mayushan Mountain with 1738 meters high above the sea level. It is said that it had ever been the meadow for the prince in Liao Dynasty, so it is called "Meadow for Prince". At the foot of the mountain there is flowing brook water, on the top of the mountain, there is wide, natural grassland; in the middle of the mountain there are lush forests. According to the record of History of Liao Dynasty, it is the cradle of Qidan and Xizu. We can see some relics such as the coffin of Princess Dachang, stone sheep, stone tiger, etc.
